Pino, Lorencita – Large Micaceous Jar with Handles, Lid (1961), Ribbon – Tesuque Pueblo

9.5"w x 9"h (w/ lid)

$ 1,200.00

Lorencita Pino is one of the few potters from Tesuque Pueblo.  She was known for her Rain Gods in the 1930s and her jars with faces on them in the 1960s. This is one of the larger pieces of her pottery we have had in the gallery.  It is a coil-built micaceous jar with handles. There is a raised ridge around the shoulder of the jar, along with handles on either side.  The jar has a flat lid that sits on the top of the piece.  It was traditionally fired so there are slight colorations to the surface of the jar.  It is signed on the bottom, “Lorencita Pino”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  There is a second place ribbon from the 1961 Gallup Ceremonials.
