Red Starr (Sioux) was married to Santa Clara potter Harriet Tafoya and learned to make Santa Clara pottery. This bowl is a larger piece of his work. It is fully polished and fired black. The bowl is etched after firing. There is a heartline bear on one side, surrounded by a feather pattern. The opposite side has a scene with three buffalo. Separating the sections bear paws, feathers, and Sioux eagle feathers. The bowl has additional inset pieces of turquoise. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Red Starr”.

The bowl has an etched Big Horn Sheep on one side and a Sun Face on the opposite side. Separating them are four eagle feathers and a star. There is an inset piece of turquoise on each of the stars. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Red Starr”.
