Roller, Ryan – Tan Carved Jar with Buffalo Lid
$ 1,600.00
This is a creative tan-polished jar by Ryan Roller. Ryan is a grandson of Toni Roller and a son of Jeff Roller. He has been making pottery since he was a child it is his recent work that has risen to a new level of sophistication in form, polish, carving, and firing techniques. This new jar has a sharp shoulder and sloping shoulder. The side of the jar is deeply carved with cloud and thunder designs. The lid has a sculpted buffalo. The buffalo is matte and the base of the lid is polished tan and it is a particular clay which was found by his grandmother, Toni around 2012. The jar is just polished with water to create the shine, and it one of the most difficult techniques to achieve a polish. The coloration after the traditional firing is a yellow-gold, which simply glows! There is an elegance to the form and design, especially the plain double shoulder where the color of the clay and the polishing are allowed to have such prominence. It is signed, “Ryan Roller”.
