Romero, Susan “Snowflake” – “The Chase” Seedpot

2"w x 2"h

$ 475.00

Susan “Snowflake” Romero’s pottery is highly polished and intricately etched with detailed imagery.  Many of her skills are ones that she learned from her father, Joseph Lonewolf. This seedpot is fully polished and fully designed.  The piece was entitled “The Chase,” and it has Mimbres-inspired antelope, deer, Big Horn Sheep, and birds etched into the clay.  They are all depicted in motion with trees in the background.  The title refers to the “story” of the piece, as it is hard to tell if the hunter is chasing the animals or if they are chasing him!  From the look on his face, it makes it seem like they are chasing him!  Of course, Susan has her signature clouds etched into the clay with subtle gradation of colors giving them a “realistic” appearance”.  Note the various colorations, as Susan often etches just the polished area away to reveal the matte red, and going deeper, there is the tan of the clay.  It is very complicated and time-consuming to etch in this manner!  However, the results are exceptional.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay with her Tewa name, “Pho-sa-We”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
