Tonita Roybal remains one of the great innovative names in San Ildefonso pottery.  This plate is fully polished on the front.  It is painted with a complex butterfly design with a flower below and the sun above.  Note the detailed hatcure lines in the center.  It is a striking and creative design.  The plate was traditionally fired to a silvery, gunmetal coloration.  The contrast of the firing and the design is visually exceptional.  It is from the 1920s and signed on the back in the clay.  It is signed, “Tonita”.  It is in excellent condition with condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
