Roybal, Tonita & Juan – 8″ Tall Long Neck Jar with Rain and Cloud Designs (1930s)

6"w x 8.25"h

$ 2,500.00

Tonita Roybal remains one of the great innovative names in San Ildefonso pottery.  This is one of her classic shapes with a high shoulder and elongated neck. The entire surface is fully polished and then painted before firing.  The shoulder is painted with a fine-line rain design, which is iconic for the work of Juan Cruz.  The neck of the jar has cloud and mountain designs.  The jar was fired to a glassy black, which makes the painted designs even stronger.  It is in nearly-excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed, “Tonita + Juan” in the clay on the bottom.  The signature and style of painting indicate it is from the early 1930s.
