Roybal, Tonita & Juan – Jar with Bird, Field, and Mountain Designs (1930s)

4.5"w x 6"h

$ 900.00

Tonita Roybal remains one of the great innovative names in San Ildefonso pottery.  This is is one of her pieces from the 1930s.  It was made by Tonita, but painted by her husband Juan Royal.  The jar has a low shoulder and elongated neck.  It is fully polished and the neck has a mountain design. The body of the jar has swirling birds along with hachure lines.  Those thin painted lines are typical of Juan’s painting style in the 1930s.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Tonita + Juan”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
