Jean Sahme is a daughter of noted potter Priscilla Nampeyo and a descendant of Nampeyo of Hano. This canteen is a classic Hopi-Tewa shape with a round front and rounded handles. The entire piece is fully polished. The front section is painted with a classic spider design using bee-weed. It is highlighted with white clay in a mottled style. The spout and handles are also slipped with mottled white clay. It is signed on the back with her hallmark fish, corn plant for corn clan. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
