Jean Sahme is a daughter of noted potter Priscilla Nampeyo and a descendant of Nampeyo of Hano. This water jar has a round shoulder and a turned-out rim. It is stone polished and painted with bee-weed (black) and red clay. Above the shoulder, the jar has six butterflies or moths as the design. The wings of each butterfly are stone polished red. Below the shoulder are cloud, rain, and mesa designs. The jar was traditionally fired which created blushes on the surface. It is signed on the bottom with her hallmark fish and corn plant for corn clan, It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
