Lilly Salvador is known for her thin-walled pottery and use of native materials to paint her designs. This jar is painted with bee-weed and four different clay slips. The jar has a high shoulder and short neck. There is a Kiva step cut-out on the rim. Along neck neck is flute player and a series of dancers extending around the piece. On the sides are four large Rain Birds. They are tightly patined and swirl across the surface. All the various colors are from natural clay slips. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Maria Lilly”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Lilly Salvador is a daughter of Frances Torivio and a niece of Lolita Concho. Her sisters Wanda Aragon and Ruth Paisano are also potters. Lilly is known for her revival of historic designs on her traditionally built and fired pottery. She has won numerous awards since the early 1970s at Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Indian Market.
