3"w x 4h (w/ lid)

$ 3,600.00

Russell Sanchez continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery.  Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  This jar has a sharp shoulder and sloping base. The base has 24 gourd or melon indentions.  The entire base is fully polished.  The shoulder of the jar has single incised bear.  As the jar is turned, there are incised rain, cloud, and corn designs (checkerboard).  The jar was traditionally fired black and after the firing, the rim was two-toned green.  The jar has a bear lid that was also traditionally fired (see last series of photos).  The jar and the bear have 65 TINY inset pieces of turquoise.  There are also two bands of hematite hei-shi beads inset around the neck of the jar.  All the stones are inset after firing.  The jar is elegant in shape and design with a modern strength.  It is signed, “Russell ’25”.
