Sanchez, Russell – Gunmetal Fired Small Bear Lid Cannister with Avanyu and 150 Inset Stones

1.75"w x 3"h (w/ lid)

$ 3,300.00

This is a detailed miniature gunmetal lidded piece by Russell Sanchez.  He continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery.  Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  The shape of this jar was inspired by the work of Russell’s great-aunt, Rose Gonzales.  The cylindrical shape of this jar is inspired by historic San Ildefonso boxes. The piece is round and fully polished.  It is etched with an avanyu encircling the piece.  The top has lid with a polished bear.  The lid and bowl were fired to a silvery gunmetal coloration.  After the firing, there are 150 inset pieces of turquoise in the piece.  There are also two rows of silver hei-shi beads.  It is very detailed for the size.. The jar and bear are both signed, “Russell ’26”.
