Sanchez, Russell – 15.5″ Tall Long Neck Jar with 176 Inset Stone, Flame Lid (Ribbon)

7.5"w x 15.5"h

$ 18,500.00

This is a stunning long-neck jar by Russell Sanchez.  He continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery.  Each piece is perfectly coil-built, stone-polished, and etched. The shape was inspired by the work of his great-aunt, Rose Gonzales.  The jar has rows of checkerboard squares. They are set with coral or slipped with mica. The square represents corn and prosperity.  Separating each row of squares is a row of hematite hei-shi beads. The neck of the jar has cloud designs, while there are water designs near the base.  The jar has a flame lid, which is a new design innovation for Russell.  They are complex in drying and polishing. The jar was fired to a silvery gunmetal coloration. The 176 pieces of coral were all inset after the firing.   It is signed on the bottom, “Russell”.  There is a blue ribbon from the 2026 Santa Fe Indian Market.
