Russell Sanchez continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery. Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. It is a round cylinder that is fully polished. It is etched with rain clouds, swirling around the piece. There are 25 inset pieces of turquoise on the jar. There are two inset rows of hematite hei-shi beads. The bear lid is fully polished and the space below the top stone is etched away in a starburst. There is a turquoise stone on the back and two for the eyes. It is exciting to see one of the smallest round boxes with a bear lid he has made! All the stones are inset after firing. The jar is elegant in shape and design with a modern strength. It is signed, “Russell ’26”.
