Setalla, Stetson – 9″ Wide Bowl with Four Directions Design

9"w x 4.75"h

$ 500.00

Stetson Setalla is a grandson of Paqua Naha (Frogwoman) and the son of Pauline Setalla. His brother Dee and sisters Gwen Setalla and Agnes Nahsonhoya also make pottery. Stetson began making pottery at the age of 19.  This large bowl is painted on the outside with a band of clouds. The inside has a classic Hopi four-directions medallion.  Each of the directions is a different color (red=south, yellow = east, white = north, blue = west).  They are surrounded by feathers. The bowl was painted with bee-weed (black) and clay slips. There are strong blushes from the firing. It is signed on the bottom S. Setalla and his raincloud symbol.
