Shutiva-Hista, Jackie – Bowl with 21 Corrugated Rows and Snake Handles
$ 175.00
Jackie Shutiva-Hista (b. 1961) is a daughter of noted potter Stella Shutiva. She learned to make pottery from her mother, who was known for her corrugated pottery. This bowl is round and fully corrugated. There are 21 rows of corrugation from the rim to the base. “Corrugated” is a technique that simply means that the coils are left exposed and are pressed down using a tool or the potter’s finger. Jackie typically uses her finger to impress the clay, creating this stylistic appearance. On the sides are snake handles, and the snakes have painted dots on their backs. The bowl is signed on the bottom, “J. H. Shutiva”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
