Shutiva-Hista, Jackie – Water Jar with Corrugated Neck
$ 850.00
Jackie Shutiva-Hista (b. 1961) is a daughter of noted potter Stella Shutiva. She learned to make pottery from her mother who was known for her corrugated pottery. This water jar is an elegant shape with a round shoulder and elongated neck. The body of the jar is plain but the neck is corrugated. It has a combination of corrugated techniques with longer sections and the typical rounded indentions. The variations create a distinctive appearance. “Corrugated” is a technique that simply means that the coils are left exposed and are pressed down using a tool or the potter’s finger. Jackie typically uses her finger to impress the clay, creating this stylistic appearance. The jar is signed on the bottom, “J. H. Shutiva”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
