Roberta Silas was a daughter of Pauline Youvella (Laguna Pueblo) and Roy Youvella (Hopi). She began making pottery in 1965. She was the mother of potters Antoinette Silas, Verona Silas, And Jofern Puffer. Roberta learned to make pottery from Helen Naha (Feather Woman). Each piece is coil built, painted with native clays, and traditionally fired. This jar has a high shoulder and short neck. The top of the shoulder has a mountain design. Around the sides are geometric patters with Hopi designs. It is painted with bee-weed (black) and red clay. It is signed on the bottom, “Roberta Silas”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
