Suazo, Marie – Bowl with Deep Carved Feathers and Mesa Design
$ 175.00
Marie Suazo is a granddaughter of noted potter Rosita Velarde and a daughter of Teresa Gutierez. She is a sister of Carol Velarde and Doris Tenorio. She is known for her deeply carved pottery and use of complex designs. This bowl has a deeply carved series of feathers surrounding a mesa and rain design. It is a very classic use of Santa Clara imagery. All the designs are deeply carved into the clay. The designs are then outlined with clay to highlight the carved areas. It is beautifully polished to a glass-like appearance. It is signed on the bottom, “Marie Suazo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
