Santanita Suazo was the mother of Margie Naranjo, Martha Huangooah, Mae Tapia, and Shirley Duran.  This bowl is coil built, stone polished, painted, and traditionally fired a glassy black. The bowl has a high shoulder and a flat top.  The top is painted with a mountain and rain design.  The bottom is also fully polished.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Santanita Suazo”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Santanita Cata Suazo was born in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo in 1925. She was the mother of noted Santa Clara potters Margie Naranjo, Martha Huangooah, Mae Tapia, and Shirley Duran.. She was known for her traditional Santa Clara pottery.
