This is a classic tall jar by Linda Tafoya-Sanchez. This jar has a round shape which creates a lot of space for design. The jar has six panels carved into the clay, each with a different design. There is a bear paw track, avanyu and clouds, rainclouds, tobacco plant, and the moth that pollinates the tobacco. Each section is deeply carved and highly polished. The neck and base are also fully polished. There is a band at the neck and the base that are slipped with mica. The jar was traditionally fired a deep black coloration. The jar has a very modernist appearance and yet is classic in traditional design elements. It is signed on the bottom, “Linda Tafoya-Sanchez”.
