Tafoya, Shirley – Bowl with Rain Clouds and Prayer Feathers (1987)

3.5"w x 2.5"h

$ 1,500.00

Shirley Tafoya was well known for her miniature pottery.  Each piece of Shirley’s miniature pottery is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. This is a larger piece of her pottery and it is deeply carved with a lightning and cloud pattern on one side and prayer feathers on the opposite side.  The polish on the surface is stunning with a glassy appearance.  The design is thoughtful, as was much of Shirley’s pottery, connecting the prayer feathers with the prayers for rain.  The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Shirley Cactus Blossom Tafoya”.
