$ 3,000.00

Stephanie Tafoya is a great-granddaughter of Margaret Tafoya, a granddaughter of Lee Tafoya, and the daughter of Mel Tafoya.  Each piece is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  This bowl is entitled, “Moves my Heart”.  It is carved with 192 parrot feathers spiraling from the rim to the base.  Note how she has carved the rim of the bowl and rounded out the edges!  The feathers are either polished red or matte.  The matte feathers are incised with linear designs.  The feathers match the shape of the jar, with longer feathers on the neck and shorter feathers near the base.  The feather design was inspired by her pet parrot Beto (see last photo).  Her name in Tewa is “Khung Be”, which means Holly Berry, which she signs as a hallmark along with her name.  She has learned to make pottery from her aunt, Linda Tafoya-Sanchez, and is currently working on perfecting her techniques with Nathan Youngblood.
