Ramona Tapia (1940-2003) was a daughter of noted potter Dolorita Gutierrez and a nice of Celestina Naranjo. She was the mother of Sarah, Lee, and Michelle Tapia. She was known for both her painted and carved pottery.  This is one of her classic piece of polychrome pottery.  The jar was polished red and then painted with clay slips.  There are bird wings and wind patterns. The jar has pink, blue, and taupe colored clays for the designs and they are outlined in white.  The jar was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ramona Tapia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
