Sue Tapia is originally from Laguna Pueblo and was married to Tom Tapia. Together they made pottery together, along with her individual pieces. This jar is a striking shape with a sharp shoulder and short neck. The jar is coil built, carved, stone polished and traditionally fired. It is a “Lightning Design” and alternates between polished and mica slipped bands. There are 32 lightning bands that extend from the rim to the base. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Sue Tapia”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

Sue Tapia (b. 1945) is originally from Laguna Pueblo and was married to noted potter Tom Tapia. They made pottery together, along with Sue making her own individual pieces. After Tom passed away in 2105 she moved back to Laguna Pueblo. She continues to make a few pieces every year. Her pottery is all made from native clay, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired.
