This is a very traditional large jar by Robert Tenorio.  The jar is painted with wild spinach (black) and red clay.  The jar has a high shoulder and a short neck.  There is one bird along with a variety of flowers and vines encircling the piece.  There is a spirit line on the outside that extends into the interior design.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Tenorio, Kewa”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

This is a fully painted open bowl by Robert Tenorio.  The bowl is painted with wild spinach (black).  The outside of the bowl has an interlocking star design.  There is a spirit line on the outside that extends into the interior design.  In the center of the bowl is a large bird.  The bird encompasses most of the interior space.  It has flowing wings and curling feathers.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Tenorio, Kewa”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Robert Tenorio

Robert Tenorio is one of the most famous Kewa (Santo Domingo) potters working today. He learned to make pottery from his grandmother Andrea Ortiz and Lupe Tenorio his great-aunt. He also studied under Otellie Loloma when he went to school at IAIA. He creates classic Santo Domingo forms along with some his own stylistic patterns and shapes. Robert has won numerous awards for his pottery and his pottery is found in museums across the United States.
