Tootsie, HK – Hopi-Tewa Candle with Fox Figure (1920s)
$ 500.00
This is an unusual candlestick and matches holder piece that is from Hopi. The piece is made from native clay and painted with bee-weed and clay slips. There is a candle holder and a handle. Next the the candleholder is a fox figure that is where the matches are placed. The piece is painted with bird-wing designs. There is a tag on the bottom that says “HK Tootsie” and an “HKT” painted on the bottom. There was a Tootsie family at First Mesa in the early 1900s. The piece is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is definitely an interesting souvenier-era piece.
