Toya, Dominique – Red Bowl with Six Melon Swirl Design

Dominique Toya Dominique Toya learned to make pottery from her mother, Maxine Toya. She was a niece of Laura Gachupin and a granddaughter of Marie G. Romero. Dominique created her distinctive style of pottery using native clay and micaceous clay slips for the surface. Dominique's awards include a "Best of Pottery" from the Heard Indian Market. Her work can also be found in museums throughout the country, including the Eiteljorg, the Heard Museum, the Peabody Essex, and the Denver Art Museum. Her awards include Best of Classification at the Heard Indian Market - 2008, Best of Classification at the Santa Fe Indian Market - 2009, Best of Classification at the Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial - 2009, Best of Show at the Eiteljorg Indian Market in Indianapolis - 2010, and Best of Division at the Santa Fe Indian market - 2013.
