Tse-Pe, Dora – 12.75″ Plate with Avanyu and Turquoise (2000)

12.75" diameter

$ 4,800.00

Dora Tse-Pe learned to make pottery from her mother-in-law, Rose Gonzales.  She was renowned for her beautifully formed and highly polished pottery.  This is one of her few large plates, and it is from 2000.  The rim of the plate and the back are slipped with mica.  There is a single large avanyu carved into the clay surrounding a polished star in the center. The eye of the avanyu is inset with turquoise. The plate was traditionally fired.  It is a creative interpretation of classic San Ildefonso designs.  The plate is signed on the back, “Dora of San Ildefonso,” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
