Unsigned – Large Polacca Polychrome Jar with Feather Designs (1870-1880)

This is a large Polacca Polychrome jar from 1870-1880.  This is a style of Hopi-Tewa pottery that was made at First Mesa at Hopi.  It typically features a characteristic white or cream kaolin slip that naturally crazes with age, painted with mineral and organic pigments.  This jar has wide shoulder with a short neck.  The neck is slipped red while the jar has kaolin clay.  There are bird wings on the sides of the jar.  It was outdoor fired to create the coloration.  The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is not signed.
