$ 175.00

Doug Vigil (b. 1954) makes pottery with his wife, Charlotte.  Doug is a son of noted potters Albert (1927-2009) and Josephine (1927-2001) Vigil.  He is a grandson of painter Romando Vigil, one of the members of the San Ildefonso School of Watercolor artists.  He is a great-nephew of Maria Martinez.  Doug and Charlotte learned to make pottery from Albert & Josephine and began making pottery in 1977.  Today, they are one of the few San Ildefonso potters making pieces in the classic matte-on-red style.  The piece is highly polished red and then painted with a tan clay slip. The bowl has a series of triangular cloud patterns painted around the shoulder.  It was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Charlotte Vigil”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
