Ethel Vigil was a daughter of noted potter Mida Tafoya and a granddaughter of Christina Naranjo.  She began making pottery in 1975. This jar is deeply carved with 24 feathers around the top and a water serpent (avanyu) around the body of the piece.  Note the depth of the carving and the very high stone-polished surface!  It is signed on the bottom, “Ethel Vigil”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
