Vigil, Lonnie – 14″ Wide Micaceous Black Jar

14"w x 9"h

$ 3,600.00

This is a large jar by Lonnie Vigil.  He is known for his use of micaceous clay and is one of a handful of potters from Nambe Pueblo.  He has taken this style of pottery and transformed it from utilitarian into fine art.  This jar is a very classic shape with a round body and a turned-out rim.  The shape is inspired by the utilitarian stew bowls used in the homes, but at a much larger scale.  The firing is striking with a dark black/brown coloration with areas of the coppery mica showing through.  This coloration conveys the variations possible, and the unexpected results, with traditional outdoor firings.  This piece is signed, “Lonnie Vigil” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
