Youvella, Nolan – Bowl with Flute Players, Kiva, Hano Mana, and Corn (1990s)
$ 800.00
Nolan Youvella was a son of noted potters Iris Nampeyo and Wallace Youvella. He was known for his relief-carved and incised pottery. This bowl is fully designed on the top and polished on the base. The top has a sculpted kiva opening with a flute player on each side. The opposite side has a corn stalk with a Hano Mana katsina. Separating them are carved lighting and cloud designs that are polished. The bowl is creative in design and tightly carved. The background area is etched with linear designs. The polished tan area is the natural color of the clay. The bowl was traditionally fired, so there are subtle blushes on the surface. The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Nolan Youvella Nampeyo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
