Candelario, Hubert -9″ Tall Jar with Holes (2024)

4.75"w x 9"h

$ 4,000.00

This is an exceptional new jar by Hubert Candelario.  He is one of the few potters working at San Felipe Pueblo.  This is one of his famous “holey pots”.   The jar has over 100 holes of various sizes cut into the clay before it is fired.  The variety in the sizes adds to both the complexity and intricacy of the piece.  It is always interesting with an open lattice style or clay work that his pieces always feel so structurally sound.  After is it carved, Hubert will slip it from 3 to 6 times with micaceous clay before it is fired.  That is what gives them such a deep coloration and even tonality.  This is a new piece and one of the largest we have had of his work.  It is signed on the bottom, “Hubert Candelario”
