Emily Tafoya was the wife of noted potter Ray Tafoya and is the mother of Jennifer Tafoya. Each piece is coil-built, stone polished, traditionally outdoors fired, and then etched with designs. This seed jar is round in shape. The rim is matte. The remainder is polished red and incised with two large Mimbres style buffalo. They are surrounded by cloud and thunder designs. The entire piece is fully designed and then highlighted with additional clay slips for more coloration. It is signed on the bottom, Emily Tafoya.

Emily Tafoya was the wife of noted potter Ray Tafoya and the mother of Jennifer Tafoya. She is known for her miniature sgraffito pottery and has won awards at Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Market. Her work has been featured in books such as "Generations".
