This is a creative water jar by Robert Tenorio.  The jar is painted with wild spinach (black) and red clay. The jar has a round body and a turned-out rim.  It was made for the July 1991 solar eclipse.  The jar is accompanied by a hand-written description of the designs by Robert.  The neck has mountains, plains, and valleys.  The body of the jar the eclipe painted on the jar.  It is a creative design with each of the various phases of the eclipse depicted.  The bottom has a rain and cloud pattern. The jar was traditionally fired and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed, “Robert Tenorio, Kewa”.  The drawing is framed and there is a description and it is signed. Definitely both an historic design for a moment in time and exciting to get both a drawing and vessel!

Robert Tenorio

Robert Tenorio is one of the most famous Kewa (Santo Domingo) potters working today. He learned to make pottery from his grandmother Andrea Ortiz and Lupe Tenorio his great-aunt. He also studied under Otellie Loloma when he went to school at IAIA. He creates classic Santo Domingo forms along with some his own stylistic patterns and shapes. Robert has won numerous awards for his pottery and his pottery is found in museums across the United States.
