Reycita Cosen was a daughter of potter Pasqualita Baca and a niece of Nestora Silva. She was known for the complex carving on her pottery. Each piece was coil built, carved, stone polished and traditionally fired. This kiva bowl is coil-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired. The interior of the bowl is fully polished. The “corners” of the bowl have a terrace or “kiva step” form. The exterior has carved rain and lighting designs on the edges and an avanyu encircling the piece. It is deeply carved and highly polished. The kiva bowl was fired to a glassy black. It is signed, “Reycita Cosen”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
