Daryl Whitegeese is known for his use of classic Santa Clara forms and his amazing, polished surfaces.  This large bowl has a round shoulder.  It is deeply carved with lightning designs.  Typical of his work, it is deeply carved with sharp edges. The bowl is highly polished to a glassy black.  It was traditionally fired a deep black coloration.  The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Daryl Whitegeese”.

Daryl Whitegeese is known for his use of classic Santa Clara forms and his amazing, polished surfaces.  This large bowl has a round shoulder and a slightly sloping neck.  The neck is carved with nine half-circle cloud patterns.  Around the body of the bowl, it is carved with swirling clouds, lightning, and straight lines for the train.  It is deeply carved and the edges almost feel sharp to the touch! The bowl was traditionally fired a deep black coloration.  The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Daryl Whitegeese”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Daryl Whitegeese

Daryl is the son of noted potter LuAnn Tafoya and the grandson of Santa Clara pottery family matriarch Margaret Tafoya.  Daryl has committed himself to creating classic Santa Clara pottery.  You can see the expert polish and shape his mother and grandmother handed him.  He creates traditional pottery where each vessel is coil built, sanded shaped, carved, then stone polished and native fired.  He has built his reputation on reviving historic shapes and designs in his pottery, with distinctive carving styles and highly polished surfaces.  He has won numerous awards for his pottery over the past several years at Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Indian Market.  At Santa Fe Indian Market, he was awarded the "Utilitarian Pottery" special award.  In 2014 Daryl Whitegeese won "Best of Pottery" at the Heard Indian Market.  In 2019 he won "Best of Pottery" at the Heard Indian Market.
