Candelario, Hubert – 16 Sharp Rib Melon Bowl with Carved Feather Design Base (2026)
$ 2,200.00
Hubert Candelario has started out 2026 with some new variations to his pottery. Hubert Candelario is one of the few potters working at San Felipe Pueblo. This seed jar has sixteen deeply carved and sharp edged melon ribs. They swirl from the rim to the base. Each rib starts small and gets wider as they swilr around the piece. They are each slipped with mica to give the piece its color and sparkle. Hubert said he can apply up to eight coats of mica to create an even tonality to his work! So, what’s new on this piece? It is the bottom where he has carved a feather design that then angles into the swirling ribs. It is a nice addition and variation to his work. This seedpod is signed, “Hubert Candelario 2026” on the bottom.

Hubert Candelario is one of the few active potters from San Felipe Pueblo. He began making pottery in 1990 using traditional micaceous clay. Hubert says he puts several coats of slip onto the surface so that the mica has an even "sparkle"! Hubert has won numerous awards for his pottery, and his work can be found in museums nationwide.
