Teresa Gutierrez is known for her deep-carved pottery with complex designs. This bowl is a larger piece of her pottery.  It is coil-built, carved, and stone-polished.  The bowl has a rain and mesa desgin carved into the clay.  The designs are outlined with matte clay before the piece is traditionally fired a deep black.  The bowl is signed “Teresa Gutierrez” on the bottom.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Teresa Gutierrez is known for her deep-carved pottery with complex designs. This long neck jar is coil-built and deeply carved. The neck of the jar has carved feathers and around the body is an avanyu.  The designs are carved into the clay, and then the jar is stone-polished. The designs are outlined with matte clay before the piece is traditionally fired a deep black.  The bowl is signed “Teresa Gutierrez” on the bottom.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Teresa Gutierrez is a daughter of Rosita Velarde and the mother of potters Carol Velarde, Marie Suazo, Doris Tenorio and Tony Gutierrez, Jr. She is known for her distinctive style of carved pottery. Teresa has won numerous awards for her pottery at events such as Santa Fe Indian Market and Eight Northern.
