Garcia, Jason – “Tewa Tales of Suspense! #146” Clay Tile
$ 2,200.00
It’s great to have a new tile from Jason Garcia. Jason has won numerous awards for his works in clay along with his Pueblo Revolt serigraph series. This piece is made from native clay, painted with native clay slips, and traditionally fired. This piece is part of his “Tewa Tales of Suspense” series. Each piece is inspired by graphic novels, early comic book art, or the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. The piece is “Tewa Tales of Suspense #146”. Jason said that he had been wanting to make a piece about the Pueblos and COVID. This piece has his son Jacob standing at the entry to the pueblo wearing a blanket and a security vest. There is the guard-house that was built at the entry to Santa Clara. Jacob is wearing his mask. It is the back of the tile as the dates “2020-2022) and the sign that was at the entry to the Pueblo. This is a great cultural piece and a reflection of a moment in time. On the front, you can also see the kivas in the background, the TV antenna indicating it is Santa Clara pueblo (St. Claire is the patron Saint of Santa Clara). There is also Jason signature clouds in the sky. The coloration on this piece is striking with the clay showing through and the subtle sky. The motion and power of this piece are exceptional. His piece is signed with his Tewa name, Okuu Pin, which means Turtle Mountain.
