This is a classic jar by Lorraine Williams. The jar has a round shoulder and sloping sides. There is a carved lighting pattern that surrounds a cloud design. It starts at the rim and swirls to the shoulder. The designs are painted red, green, and black to accentuate the designs and then traditionally fired to create the surface coloration. After the piece is fired it is covered in pinon-pitch. The pitch is a reminder of the historic Navajo pottery when it was utilitarian. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW, Lorraine Williams”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Lorraine won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.

This is a large jar by Lorraine Williams. The jar has a sharp shoulder, sloping sides, and a square neck. The bottom half of the jar is slipped red while the top is left with the natural brown of the clay. Around the neck is a “waterfall” design with incised lines. Below the shoulder is a double rainbow pattern. The designs are painted red and black to accentuate the designs and then traditionally fired to create the surface coloration. After the piece is fired it is covered in pinon-pitch. The pitch is a reminder of the historic Navajo pottery when it was utilitarian. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW, Lorraine Williams”. Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.
