Rachel Sahmie was a daughter of noted potter Priscilla Nampeyo and was a sister of Nyla Sahmie, Jean Sahme, Bonnie Nampeyo, and Randy Sahmie. She was known for her traditional style of pottery, which is coil-built, painted with native clays, and traditionally fired. She signs her pottery with an incised “R” or “Koo-Loo,” which means corn.
