Antonio, Frederica – “Four Seasons” Double Lobe Jar
$ 3,500.00
Frederica Antonio is renowned for her intricately painted pottery. Each piece is coil-built and then finely painted. Her designs are a series of fine vertical and horizontal lines which are then filled in to create larger images in the squares. Frederica said this was her first attempt at a “double lobe” jar. The shape of the jar is based on historic forms that brought together two vessels for cooking. This the bottom half undulates out to the upper half, creating one coil-built vessel. The top half is painted with a swirling rain design. The bottom half has Frederica’s famous “four seasons” design with corn, rain, snow, and lightning patterns. Each of the four sections is separated by a colorful lightning design. It is a colorful and complex piece! The base of the jar is concave, reminiscent of historic Acoma jars that were carried on the head. The jar is signed on the bottom, “F. V. Antonio”.
