Frederica Antonio is renowned for her intricately painted pottery. Each piece is coil-built and then finely painted. Her designs are a series of fine vertical and horizontal lines which are then filled in to create larger images in the squares. Note how the squares are smaller than normal, they are what she calls her “micro mini squares”. The entire jar is fully painted with a spiraling “four seasons” design that extends from the rim to the base. Each section is separated by lightning designs. The tiny lines and squares on the jar are mesmerizing! I am always amazed she can painted with such detail in an even more miniature scale of design! The base of the jar is concave, reminiscent of historic Acoma jars that were carried on the head. The jar is signed on the bottom, “F. V. Antonio”.
