Aragon, John – Water Jar with 40 Mimbres Animals (1990)

7"w x 5.75"h

$ 775.00

John Aragon is known for his use of Mimbres imagery on his pottery.  John learned to make pottery from his mother, Florence Aragon.  This jar is an unusual shape for his pottery, and is reminiscent of the classic shapes of Rachel and Florence Aragon’s work.  The jar painted with over 40 different Mimbres animals, birds, and insects.  It is a complicated piece for the size!  There is a lot going on but the flow and interconnection is exceptional.  John has an amazing ability to fit so many images onto one piece and still have it look cohesive! The bowl is signed on the bottom,, “John Aragon”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
