Anna Archuleta (b. 1953) began making pottery in 1988. She is a daughter of Belen Tapia and a sister of Anita Suazo. This larger jar is deeply carved with an avanyu. Below the avanyu are mountain designs. Around the neck are cloud patterns. Note the depth and precision of the carving. The jar is fully stone polished red. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Anna & Fidel Archuleta”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Anna Archuleta, of Santa Clara Pueblo was born in 1953 and has been making pottery in her own name since 1988. She and her sister, Anita Suazo, were taught by her mother Belen Tapia. Anna specializes in stone polished redware carved bowls, uses natural slips with traditional coiling.
