Archuleta, Mary Ester – Large Jar with Carved Cloud Designs (1970s)
$ 1,400.00
Mary Ester Archuleta is the second youngest daughter of Margaret Tafoya. While she no longer makes pottery she was active in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Much of her pottery was inspired by the incised San Juan style of pottery as she married into San Juan and lived there. This is one of her few black pieces. The jar has a wide shoulder and a short neck. The jar is deeply carved with step cloud designs which also create kiva step patterns. It is striking use of design and form. The jar was fired a glassy black. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Mary Archuleta. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
