Bell, Seferina – 15″ Wide Storage Jar with Birds and Clouds (1950s)
$ 2,400.00
This is a massive storage jar by Seferina Bell. She has long been considered one of the great Zia potters of the 20th century. It is the largest piece I have seen of her work. The jar has a high shoulder and short neck. There are large sections with Zia roadrunners. They are each separated by red polished clouds. There are also two sections with complex painted cloud and rain designs. The complexity and variety of designs on the jar is amazing. The piece was traditionally fired and has some wear across the surface and a small chip on the rim. It is signed on the side with a bell, which was her hallmark. Overall, it is in good condition with no cracks, restoration, or repair, and the size of the piece and complexity of the design make it quite extraordinary. It is certainly a classic of her work in design and form.
